Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York coordinates donations from the Sri Lankan community in the New York Tri-State area for the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund

The Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations in New York transferred a sum of over US$ 140,000 (LKR 44,00,000.00) donated to the Mission by the members of the Sri Lankan community living in the New York Tri-State area, business entities, and well–wishers to the ‘Rebuilding Sri Lanka’ Fund.

In response to the request made by the Permanent Mission, Sri Lankans living in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, religious, business and community organizations, including the New York Buddhist Vihara, Sri Lanka Catholic Community, Islamic Centre of New Rochelle, TASMINA Inc., Isipathana OBA North America, The Serendipity Network, and Air Sea Land Group of Companies, generously contributed monetary donations to the Mission which were duly transferred to the rebuilding efforts from the damages caused by Cyclone Ditwah in November 2025

In addition to the donations through the Permanent Mission, many Sri Lankans, religious, business and community organizations, including the Staten Island Buddhist Vihara and the Royal College Old Boys’ East Coast Foundation, donated funds directly to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and implemented several projects to address the humanitarian needs of the affecting communities.

Further, the Government of Algeria through the Permanent Mission of Algeria in New York, donated a monetary contribution to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka. The Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations Jayantha Jayasuriya met the Permanent Representative of Algeria and conveyed his appreciation for the contribution and briefed the Permanent Representative of Algeria of the recovery efforts of the Government.

The Permanent Mission extends its heartfelt gratitude to all the donors for their generosity in supporting this ongoing mission.
