Sri Lanka in UN

Sri Lanka joined 15 other Member States on 11 December 2025 to commemorate 70 years of membership in the United Nations, highlighting the country’s longstanding commitment to international cooperation, principled multilateralism, and inclusive global engagement. Sri Lanka’s admission to the United Nations in 1955 along with 15 other Member States came at a significant turning point in the Organization’s history, as the United Nations expanded to include countries from an increasingly diverse range of regions, strengthening its universal character. Over the past seven decades, Sri Lanka has actively contributed to the work of the United Nations, engaging with Member States from different perspectives and experiences while pursuing the shared goal of addressing global challenges through international cooperation.
